| R. L. Hughes |
R. L. Hughes has art experience legally ranging over a period of twenty years. Hughes attended technical school due to his electro-mechanical talents while juggling art, work and a part-time musical band, which is Hughes’ second interest. "I'm an arrant self-taught artist although I won a scholarship to C.C.A.D. Saturday school during high school. As an adult, it seemed more practical to receive a technical degree as opposed to an art degree", recalls Hughes of his earlier and more uncertain years. After a life-changing experience in 1998, Hughes decided to take up oil painting, and to date has accomplished great works of art as well as some interesting exhibitions in the Columbus area. Hughes once dressed as a Mime with face paint and sang loud original songs as he played his guitar. "Hilarious" said an innocent pedestrian. "The music was pretty good too actually." Another but absentee performance was when he hung a toilet plunger painted with red and white stripes titled "Epicenter" from the awning outside his gallery show. It was stolen in less than twenty-four hours. "I can't help but wonder if the plunger wound up in the dumpster or next to that person's toilet. You never know what kind of reaction you will get when you become passionate about protesting", R. L. says. Hughes was born in Columbus in 1971 and since his first hybrid oil painting in 1999 of Nikola Tesla, inventor of Alternating Current, Rich has exhibited work at many great institutions around Columbus, including both solo and group exhibitions. " I'm a fan of magic(k) and illusionary art such as M. C. Escher, and am a student of the universe that surrounds us", says the astutesque artist...
